Happenings Around the Prevention World

The Communication Coach Online is happy to provide a list of announcements and upcoming events of possible interest to your initiative.

April 2010

Communication & Social Marketing Center Webinars: Crafting Messages That Motivate Your Audiences To Act

Developing meaningful messages that inspire audiences to act is challenging! On one hand, your SS/HS projects need messages that are specific enough to resonate with small segments of a target audience. On the other hand, you also need messages that speak to the larger themes of prevention and can help shift paradigms in your larger communities. This exciting, two-part skill-building Webinar will help you craft messages that meet both of these needs.

Part I: Wednesday, April 14, 2010, 2:00 pm EST, 1 hour

In Part I on April 14, you will be trained in a step-by-step approach to create a framework for meaningful messages that can help you “move the needle,” whether you’re speaking to an individual parent or the larger community. You will be encouraged to take this process back to partners and staff members to develop the initiative’s messages.

Part II: Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 2:00 pm EST, 1 hour

In Part II on April 28, you will be provided with an opportunity to share the work you’ve done in a facilitated session designed to encourage peer-to-peer discussion and learning. Grantees are encouraged to register for both Webinars to make the most of this learning opportunity.

National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day Planning Call

Join the Technical Assistance Partnership and the Caring for Every Child's Mental Health Campaign for the next social marketing affinity call on Media Outreach and Social Media on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Learn about traditional media outreach and social media and how one community integrated them successfully. Our featured speakers will share strategies, tips, and lessons learned.

Lisa Preney, social marketer with the THRIVE System of Care in Maine, will talk about using Digital Stories—a channel that can be used to highlight youth and family voices in a compelling way. THRIVE's success in reaching local media and system of care partners has put the spotlight on children's mental health and increased exposure to the system of care's work all year long. She will explain how THRIVE is using Digital Stories to promote the messages of their system of care through television, radio, in-person events, and the Internet.

Featured Speakers:
Lisa Preney, Social Marketer with the THRIVE System of Care in Maine
Crystal Borde, Media Outreach Specialist, Caring for Every Child's Mental Health Campaign
Chris Connelly, Digital Media Strategist, Caring for Every Child's Mental Health Campaign
